Portraits have a long tradition in my family line. My grandfather once painted all our family and lots of community members. As a child, I was often greeted by complete strangers on my way to school, because my grandfather had painted one of their kids or their spouses over the years. I grew up seeing my grandfather painting portraits and the old masters, so it’s no wonder that portraiture is a core of my work.
I love looking at faces. The personal history engraved in facial lines. I love the transparency of the skin, the fine structure of the hair, the subtitle tones of eyes and lips. I love to capture a person in unusual ways. A portrait is a wonderful gift, a valuable memory of a loved one and a time capsule.
My Process
If you decide to have your portrait painted we will make a selection of photos beforehand. I have to have a look at the shots. We’ll discuss the size, mood and sharpness first.
When we agree, I will make a suggestion for the painting. Pretty often I do a draft in Photoshop to improve composition and design. The moment you agree on the draft, I go in process mode and I will need about three months to finish your piece.
I usually contact the client when I‘m 95% done. Then we can discuss final touches or small changes to be made. Working on watercolor does not allow that much change, so it’s important that we agree on the draft 100%. The moment you give a go the process is pretty much set.
When I‘m finished you will get a high res photo of the work. Then I will provide packaging and will take care of shipping. The moment your work arrives, please send me a note, so that I know the work did arrive safely and secure.
Capture a face for a lifetime
Usually my A4 watercolors are around 350- 550 Euro. Depending on the motiv. A portrait is usually A3 or larger, because of the details, I love to include. I sell these portraits usually between 2.000 and 3.500 Euro. Depends on the amount of details included. Alternative or larger sizes: price in consultation. Fees listed are for the artwork only and do not include shipping or travel expenses, framing or international tax.
